Chief Robert E. Moody, class of 1970, has been the fire chief of the City of Strongsville since April 2005.

In April 2007, Moody marked his 30th year as a member of the Strongsville Fire Department. In 1979 he was certified as a paramedic and continues to be state certified in that field. He has two associate degrees from Tri C and a bachelor’s degree in public safety management from Cleveland State University. He is a certified fire investigator, serving on a regional fire investigation team and CERT, serving 19 communities including Brunswick and Strongsville. His department is home to the area’s arson dog.

Moody worked his way through the ranks of the department, serving as a shift supervisor, executive officer and assistant chief before being named chief.

His name is familiar to most paramedics because his invention, the Moody Tube, is a staple in every department. Moody invented a convenient, compact tube in which to safely dispose of needles, syringes and other bio-hazardous waste in the confined space of a rescue squad.

He spends a great deal of his time teaching and is a certified EMS-paramedic instructor. He supervises 69 professional firefighters headquarted in four stations.

He is married to the Brenda (Sebek BHS 1973) and has two children Melissa and Adam and one grandchild, 1-year-old Roberto.
