Patrick Beyer is a 1967 graduate who has served the community in a
variety of capacities. He is now the city's safety director. Following
graduation he served in the U.S. Army, including a tour in Vietnam. He
left as a sergeant with the military police.
He came home and joined the Cleveland Metropolitan Park Ranger
Department as a communications ranger while he attended Cuyahoga
Community College. After two years he went on to earn his bachelor's
degree in psychology from Baldwin-Wallace College in 1974 when he joined
the Brunswick Police Department as a basic patrol officer. He advanced
to sergeant in 1977.
In 1979 he added to his work load as a substitute
teacher, Certified Severe Behavior Handicap classroom teacher at
Brunswick High and also was a home instruction teacher. He advanced to
police lieutenant in 1988 and to chief in 1989, serving until his most
recent appointment in 2003.
From 1975-80 he studied at the College of Urban Affairs at Cleveland
State University graduating with his master's degree in policy analysis.
From 1985-87 he worked on his master of education reading specialist
degree and form 1993-96 he again studied at the College of Urban Affairs
in the policy analysis doctoral program.

confidently say that Pat Beyer is a wonderful example to young and old
in our community," said one group of nominators.
From 1991-95 you could often find him donning a kilt and playing
bagpipe as a member of the Greater Cleveland Police Officer Memorial
Society Pipe Band. He is a member of the Brunswick Rotary Club and
attained a black belt in Tae Kwon Do from Kim's College of Martial Arts.
He is currently a member of the school district financial advisory
committee.
He has won many awards for his work including recognition by the VFW
and the Ohio Community Policing Governor's Award of Excellence.
Beyer and wife Rosemarie Skrletts Beyer (whom he met in the fourth
grade) have been married 34 years. They have two children, Shane,
married to Lisa Erler Beyer) and Amy Harris, married to Richard Harris.
They have five grandchildren.
