Kevin Peterka , class of 1987, is a nationally known author and screenwriter. During his Brunswick High School career, he excelled in dramas, comedies and musicals, his drama teacher notes.

He graduated from the New York University Tisch School of the Arts film school and paired up with his writing partner, Gregg Chabot, to write the screenplay that became the film, “Reign of Fire.”

After that, they came close to getting another movie made a few times, he said. One is a revisionist Sheriff of Nottingham movie with Beacon Films, a Chicago fire action movie with Dreamworks and an adventure movie about witches with New Regency.

“I’ve been lucky to live my dream by making a living as a writer. I’m proud of my work, though I can’t help but feel somewhat disappointed that so much of it has only served to feed the Hollywood development pipeline,” he said.

The partners are currently working on a television series and a new feature. Meanwhile, they sold a script last year to Legendary Films, set on the shores of Lake Erie, and are hoping it will soon be in production.

He and wife, Kris, have four daughters, Rory, Sabine, Tess and Juliet.

As a gift to his alma mater, Peterka wrote the script for the original production, “Darkroom,” which was performed at the dedication of the new Performing Arts Center at Brunswick High School in 2002.
