James Hayas is a 1967 graduate of Brunswick High School and one of the
community's most avid cheerleaders. He is serving his 12th year as
superintendent of the Brunswick City School District.
He earned his bachelor's degree in liberal arts with a major in English
at Baldwin-Wallace College and his master's in education in school
administration from the University of Akron.
He is a member and serves
several professional organizations including the Buckeye Association of
School Administrators, American Association of School Administrators,
Association for Curriculum Development, Brunswick Area Chamber of
Commerce, Brunswick Kiwanis Club, Brunswick Historical Society,
Brunswick Sports Hall of Fame, Ohio School Leadership Institute and
Leadership Medina County.
"After more than 30 years in the field of education, I can honestly say
I have never met a finer educator or a better person than Jim Hayas,"
one of his nominators said. "He stands out from others because of his
tireless dedication to education in, and his observable love for, his
home town of Brunswick."
For most of his 35 years in education, he has
served Brunswick first as an English teacher and coach at Brunswick High
School and then as an assistant principal and principal. He left to
become superintendent of Wellington Local Schools in 1992 and returned
here in 1994 when he had the opportunity to return to his home town as
superintendent.
