David Alwin Wolff, class of 1952. Dr. Wolff earned his bachelor’s degree in biology with a minor in chemistry from the College of Wooster and his master’s degree in microbiology from the University of Cincinnati. He served in the U.S. Army from 1956-59 and then attended the University of Cincinnati College of Medicine where he earned his PhD in microbiology and virology.

Dr. Wolff has conducted research on polio virus, herpes virus, vaccinia viruses and others to understand the mechanism of a virus. He spent six months conducting research at Uppsala University in Sweden and three months at the University of Basel in Switzerland. He has published 23 papers, book chapters and made presentations in the U.S. and abroad.

He was medical research program manager and administrator at the National Institutes of Health in Bethesda Maryland from 1978-97 He retired in 2002 as associate director, medical research service and rehabilitation research for the U.S. Department of Veteran Affairs in Washington. He served as special consultant on intellectual property development at the Department of Veteran Affairs through 2003.

He is married to Linda Wolff, PhD, a lab chief at the National Institutes of Health. He has a daughter, Lauren and three sons, Kurt, Christopher and Andrew. He currently resides in Annapolis.
